Car seat and the Firehouse
We are chugging along getting things ready for Sophia. Over the weekend we put Sophia's car seat in the van. Well, I should say we tried to put Sophia's car seat in the van....
First the van seat had to be moved
Not an easy feat but Riz got it done
Then in goes the seat protector (that was the easy part)
Next in goes the car seat
We are a little worried about poor little Sophia. She has 2 parents who could not figure out how to get the car seat in the car properly.
So we gave up and took the van and the car seat to the firehouse for installation... The nice fireman Nate put it in for us in less then 5 minutes. He showed us what we were doing wrong boy did we feel dumb. It was simple once we knew what we were doing (we did not need to use the seat belt at all). I should have taken a picture of Nate but I did not think of it until we left....
Isn't that car seat pretty? We will probably live to regret the light colored fabric but hey it is Florida and it is HOT so I wanted something summery, girly and cooler so "The Britex Ashley" it had to be..Plus, our Goddaughter's name is Ashley so how could we not pick that one right? It is such a sweet feeling to drive down the road, look in that rear view mirror and see that car seat back there knowing one day very soon Sophia will be looking back at us....
7 More sleeps to go
11 More sleeps till Sophia is in our arms forever...

LOVE the pictures!!! This is definitely another blog entry that needs printed out for Sophia's scrapbook!! LOL
The carseat is really pretty...nice choice! :)
Our Emma has the same car seat!! Sam has the "Cow-moo-flage" pattern. They are amazingly easy to spot clean and have made it thru several spins in our washer. Just remember to pay close attention when you take it apart to put it in the washer - you need to be able to put it back together once it is dry! I speak from experience.......
We couldn't figure out how to put ours in either. It was a two day task - LOL!! I like your choice in the pattern!
Already great parents...going to the experts to make sure your baby is safe... Looking so forward to following your journey in China... my daughter is lid 2/17/06 and I know you met her in Philly. She is Donna of waiting for Lauren Elizabeth. We are waiting for her journey to happen and meanwhile I love to watch families unite....good luck w/your trip. Linda
I am watching here from Newmarket, Ontario....it is so amazing to watch families from all over! Our girl is 2 years, 4 mths...the time flies so enjoy every moment. Amy
You don't use the seatbelt? I would have never guessed that. I'm totally clueless on carseats right now, but have a feeling we will be experts soon.
Donna :)
First, congratulations on your beautiful baby! Enjoy every moment of your trip. It is truly amazing!
The seat belt should be used, I'm pretty sure. Both of the car seats that I have do. Also, not to be such a drag, but shouldn't the seat be turned around, rear facing? I think it depends on weight and height of your baby and not age. I left both of my girls rear facing for as long as I possibly could for safety sake. Your city should have a "safety city" or some sort of place that professionally installs the seat for you at no charge.
Best wishes and huge congrats,
Debra
Mama to two precious girls that were born in China.
Debra, Yes we did take the seat to our local Firehouse and a Certified Car seat installer put it in for us. Our daughter will be more then 20 pounds when we bring her home and is 15 months old. The seat needs to be rear facing until they are 1 year old or 20 pounds. The car seat we have and the Van that we have use a "teather system" not the seat belt system. Thanks for the concern and well wishes. We are really looking forward to bringing our girl home...oh and we Scotch Guarded the seat cover too LOL
So sorry to come off as a know-it-all. Truly! I didn't realize that Sophia was already 20 lbs. The tether is better than the seat belt for sure. Much more stable. I know you guys must be so excited to get to your baby. You seem like wonderful people and I know your baby will be blessed!
Much happiness to you,
Debra
Mama to Pru and Pei
Debra it is all good.. you did not come across as a know it all at all. I am always willing to take advice from people who have been to China, through adoption or have been parents. I know nothing about parenting but I am learning....
We are very excited about becoming parents and traveling to China.
Thank for your interest in our story..
Best
Susan
Susan and Riz,
This carseat post is positively priceless! Definitely a keeper for Sophia's Lifebook! OMG! We just bought the Britax Marathon for Kaelin! The Ashley is so very pretty, too! Only, err, umm, we opted for the tan swirl, you will see why in a couple of months! Heehee! The whole installation process looks very intimidating so we are going to have ours installed by the firehouse as well!
You are going to be awesome parents!
